Free Stuff: Why I have been drinking so much tea lately

The above is how I have decided to pimp my ride. Yoshi style. Old school.

When I walked into a convenience store a few weeks back I discovered that the beverage companies were doing another one of their promotional giveaways. Buy a bottle of tea and you get a Super Mario 3D Land toy:
They do this sort of thing sometimes and it is always awesome. The best was the Famicom themed Mario bottlecaps they did a few years ago, but this one is also acceptable.

Normally I don`t drink this kind of tea, but for the duration of this giveaway I have decided to do so. It is impossible to resist. I mean, look at the above photo. Three kinds of tea. The kinds on the left and right come with nothing but tea. The one in the middle comes with tea and a little plastic toy. They are all the same price. They are all varations of the same thing (really bland Japanese tea). Which one would you pick?

I have about a dozen of them now, all of them characters from some 3DS game that I will probably never play.

I chose Yoshi to be the masthead for my bicycle, mainly because he is yellow and so is my bike. Also he is in a running pose so it is sort of like he is running ahead of me while I ride. We`ll see how long he manages to stay there before the little chain rusts through and he falls off.

  1. Is this supposed to be nation wide?
I bought a few tea bottles 2 days ago but all they had here was a (game unrelated) "cloth" :(

  2. Usually they are, but not all shops will stock the ones with the free toys. In town here a lot of the stores (especially grocery stores) are only selling the ones without the toy, there are a few convenience stores that stock them here. I recommend checking around, though these promotions are usually for a limited time so this one might be almost up!

  4. Yup. Free stuff with bottled drinks is another one of the fringe benefits of living here:)

  5. I might be wrong, but that definitely looks like Koopa on your bike there...

  6. I'd buy the tea and pour it down the drain... not much of a tea person, but I'd buy it for those toys! Heh.

  7. Yeah, I`m not much of a tea person either. I wish they would do these promotions with drinks that I actually like:)

Mind you, Pepsi used to do these too. It is much easier to drink a lot of bottles of tea than it is to drink a lot of bottles of Pepsi. Probably a lot healthier too!

  8. I'm actually into tea myself, more into the sweeter ones; regular green tea's a bit too strong for my taste.

I think I'd go nuts and buy one of each bottle with all the available caps if I ever saw a promotion like that; too awesome.

  9. Awesome. I really like that goomba one, I'll try to pick one up when I visit Japan next week.

For tea, I don't really like those sweet ones, however I am a huge fan of their oolong black tea. For some reason I find them more refreshing than the green ones.

  10. Kaibun - yes, sweeter teas I do like. Its the bland ones (like this one) that I usually avoid, though they are healthier.

Daniel - Yes, do stop in the convenience stores for one of these (hopefully the promotion will still be on when you get here). The darker teas appeal a bit more to me too, I`m not sure why. Anyway, hope you have a nice visit!
