Having nice, clean carts is also great!

I think what I am trying to say is that old carts that aren't in mint condition can also be kind of interesting. But of course nice carts in great condition are also nice to have.

I kind of like both, really. The only time I really clean games to pristine quality is if it's a game I really like (my chrono trigger cart for instance) or if it's something valuable that I found in a second store that I am flipping to buy more awesome games. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. The two craziest types of collectors are NEO GEO fanatics and sealed collectors. I li...Bryan - we don't think that differently! I like CIB stuff, especially those CIB pulse line and Namco carts you got - you know how jealous I am:). I've got a few myself and I love them, if I can find stuff CIB I'll usually take it over a loose one (depending on how I like the box). The boxes are just great - works of art unto themselves.

What I don't understand though is the specific focus some people have on "sealed" stuff. Like just the additional layer of plastic wrap is somehow important. I like my stuff to have actually been used by someone. If they've kept it in top condition that is great, but if they've put it through the works a bit that is fine with me too (so long as they haven't torn the label off or cracked the plastic or something)!

Glad to know I've spurred your interest in carts with a "personal touch"!

And.....Congratulations! You have Successfully identified the mystery cart! (You've seen my recent CIB Famicom purchases!)

I guess I fall somewhere between you and the blogger you mentioned (the one who buys sealed games). For me, it all comes down to two things: Price and how much I like the box the game came in. If I like a particular game's box and a CIB copy isn't all that expensive, I'll buy it; otherwise, I'm fine with just owning the cart.

I have to admit, though, that I'd never buy a cart with a label partially torn off :P After reading and digesting your post, though, I *would* buy one that features some of the "personal touches" you mentioned. Like you said, those "touches" can provide a game with a history and some personality.

Anyway, thanks again for the great post. It definitely made me think!

Oh, and regarding the yellow cart that's been covered up by stickers, I was going to guess Lode Runner, but it seems that's already been used. How about Pinball by Nintendo?Bryan Ochallahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16256591698209804728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6892786114932769023.post-72357606435132025482011-01-12T23:20:33.929+09:002011-01-12T23:20:33.929+09:00I love this article and agree! Games that only took up one side allowed the other side to be used for game downloads, so I have lots of disks with handwriting on the back label.

My favorite is a copy of Pro Wrestling, with a backside label that says "TE-NI-SU" in the most controlled, but still fairly crude, katakana handwriting. It looks just like a young boy or girl was allowed to write on their disk, but only if they practiced the characters first, or something to that effect. So cute!

(That article you linked makes me wonder... Do most of these people know that their precious copy of Zelda LTTP is a reprint from 1998? £300 sounds absolutely absurd for a mass-produced late-90's reprint published by Nintendo. Unpublished games go for less!)Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00098984708281672730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6892786114932769023.post-53611988168319424672011-01-12T14:17:27.041+09:002011-01-12T14:17:27.041+09:00Thanks, Kendra.
